The Read On app, developed by the team at London Libraries, is designed to encourage and support reading habits by offering curated book recommendations, interactive quizzes, and personalized reading challenges as well as reading plans to encourage adults to read more regularly. It serves as a digital complement to the physical library, helping users find their local library and accessing content set by their librarians.

Read On is inspired by the Couch to 5K model but for reading. It gently guides non-readers, especially adults, towards building a regular reading habit through structured, achievable reading plans and goals. By gradually increasing the complexity and frequency of reading, the app makes the transition into regular reading smooth and enjoyable.

Book recommendations are tailored through an initial genre selection process, where users are presented with random genres. For each genre, a curated list of 12 books is offered, sourced from the Novellic app, known best for book recommendations and clubs. Every time the user clicks on the Get Book Recommendation button the genres and selection are randomised again. This method ensures users discover books aligned with their emerging interests.

Unlike standard e-book and catalogue apps, Read On focuses on enhancing reading habits and reader engagement through interactive features like reading challenges and quizzes. It's designed not just to recommend books but to actively engage users in their reading journey and connect them with their local library.
