Meet the Author: Camden Libraries bringing writers and readers together

Meet the Author is a growing series of free, informal events from Camden Libraries that brings writers and local communities together. Launched in early 2025 at West Hampstead Library and now also running at Highgate Library, the programme offers relaxed conversations, readings, and open Q&A sessions with a wide range of authors including novelists, poets, memoirists and children’s writers. With a strong focus on local and diverse voices, the events transform everyday library spaces into welcoming cultural hubs where stories and people connect.

Camden Libraries created Meet the Author in response to the barriers many people face when engaging with traditional literary events including cost, confidence, or the formality of typical venues. By bringing high‑quality cultural experiences into familiar, free, community‑centred spaces, the programme:

• • makes literary culture accessible to everyone

  • encourages reading for pleasure

  • reduces social isolation

  • strengthens the library’s role as a trusted, inclusive space

The programme is intentionally informal and flexible, shaped around each library and its audiences. Events take place within everyday library settings, removing the pressure of a formal stage and creating a warm, unintimidating environment.

Each author session is linked to themed book displays and borrowing opportunities, turning a one‑off event into a catalyst for ongoing reading and engagement.
